Who founded Pukka?

Pukka was founded by Trevor and Valerie Storer 58 years ago. Today we’re proud to still be an independently run family business and our directors are Andrew and Tim Storer – Trevor and Valerie’s sons. In fact, our bakery is still in Syston, Leicestershire – a stone’s throw from the kitchen where the very first Pukka pie was created.

How many recipes of pies do you sell?

We make, bake and sell a huge range of tasty single-serve pies: All Steak, Chicken & Mushroom, Steak & Kidney, Minced Beef & Onion, Chicken & Gravy,
Steak & Ale, Chicken Balti, our award-winning Veggie Cheese, Leek & Potato. You can now also pick up our tasty new vegan Chicken & Mushroom and vegan Minced Steak & Onion pies - look out for the vegan stamp of approval from the Vegetarian Society on pack.

We also have a tasty selection of pies just for two, including: Chicken, Ham & Leek, Steak & Red Wine and Vintage Cheddar & Leek.

Our Potato, Cheese & Onion, Meat & Potato and Veggie Tikka Masala pies are available from your local chippy, cafes and pubs across the country – but not in the supermarket.

Finally, our frozen microwaveable shortcrust single-serve pies include All Steak, Veggie Cheese, Leek & Potato and Minced Beef & Onion – as well as our newly launched Chicken & Bacon and Vegan Minced Steak & Onion – which you can heat and eat straight from the freezer in just 4 minutes. There’s a Pukka for everyone!

What range of slices, sausage rolls and pasties do you sell?

After listening to what you all wanted to see next from us, we have launched a tasty range of slices, sausage rolls and a pasty to be enjoyed anytime, anywhere – hot or cold. Delivering the same great taste as our pie range – from the first bite to the very last crumb – our new range includes the: Steak Slice, Chicken & Bacon Slice and Cheese, Leek & Potato Slice; the Pukka Pork Sausage Roll and the Pukka Vegan Sausage Roll; and our Beef Pasty. We also have the Chicken Balti Slice which you’ll find in Morrisons, and the Chicken & Mushroom Slice which is on Asda shelves.

Where can I buy Pukka pies?

You can pick up our tasty Pukka pies in lots of local chip shops or in the chilled and frozen aisles of most major supermarkets nationwide – Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Co-Op, Waitrose, Ocado, Iceland or Farmfoods, as well as may convenience stores. Plus, look out for us in stadiums, butchers, cafes and pubs across the country. Keep your eyes peeled for the Pukka stamp of quality on the bottom of our foils.

How do I best cook my pies?

Generally speaking, our pies take 25-30 minutes to cook and we takegreat care in developing our heating guidelines and use a wide rangeof domestic ovens to test our pies. However, as appliances can vary, cooking times may change ever so slightly from oven to oven. If you’d like more information specific to your oven at home, check out this
handy conversion guide available at BBC Good Food: www.bbcgoodfood.com/conversion-guides.

Can I microwave your products?

You can microwave our frozen shortcrust pastry pies straight from freezer in just 4 minutes! For our puff pastry pies however, we’d advise these should always only be oven baked.

How do I heat your slices, sausage rolls and pasty?

Heating instructions for each product can be found on the packaging.

What do you do to help protect the environment?

We work very hard to ensure our production processes are sustainable. This includes recycling the majority of all of our waste, with 0% of waste going to landfill (our food waste is actually used to generate gas and then electricity). We also monitor gas, water and electricity usage on site – and we are currently working with Loughborough University to review our water and electricity usage and look at tangible ways that we can reduce both of these moving forward. We’ve also removed the plastic window from our pie boxes, saving 11.4 tonnes of plastic annually to help achieve even greater sustainability across our bakery. Our packs are made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified cardboard and are now fully recyclable.

Is the foil you use recyclable?

Yes, our foil is widely recyclable.

Which charities do you support?

We aim to give back to communities in any way that we can. That’s why we’re proud to be working with Fareshare to help get food to the people who need it most. We also support lots of Leicestershire-based charities that are close to our bakery, including local hospices such as Rainbows Children’s Hospice and LOROS Hospice, as well as Open
Hands
for the Homeless and The ‘Y’, who transform lives through housing and education.

Are your products gluten-free?

Our pies, slices, sausage rolls and pasty aren’t currently gluten-free, but who knows what the future could hold. Watch this space…
